Main production on Beneath a Wounded Sky is now complete!
That’s right. The last swoosh from my fountain pen is on the pad, and the first draft is officially done. This weekend will be busy, as I transcribe the last few chapters from longhand to disk, and start working on all those <?> items scattered in there.
And then begins the painful process of editing.
This has been an exceptionally long and painful journey. To be honest, the decision by Roc Books to drop the series “in flight” was incredibly demoralizing. Though I knew it intellectually, that was my first Real Life Hard Knock lesson in “Publishing Is a Business 101.”
It took me some time to muster the heart to restart the project, which I did in 2008, but then the Day Job, a TIA, and an arterial infarction put the kibosh on my efforts. I restarted the project in 2010, and re-restarted in 2011. And now, here it is 2012.
A long time, and still miles to go before I sleep, but I really feel like I’m “back.”
