Kurt R. A. Giambastiani is SeattleAuthor
The intent of this blog is to give my readers—new, old, and prospective—a place to learn more about my written works, and to provide some insight into who I am beyond the printed page. Primarily, this blog will be about writing, but as I am much more than simply a writer, the subjects will range far afield from that single topic.
I believe that artistic expression is our one true gift as a species, and that every one of us is capable of it, in some form or other. It may take us a lifetime to discover where our artistic gifts and personal desires coincide, but never quit searching, never stop experimenting. Failure and success are ultimately irrelevant, if the attempt is what brings you joy.
I believe in generalization as a goal for personal growth. Intellectual potential is wasted on specialization; we miss the big picture, and get lost in the forest of concepts, confused by all the trees. Learning is the reward for curiosity, and curiosity keeps a mind young,
I have been, at various times, a musician, a dancer, an author, a chef, a woodworker, a gardener, a clockmaker, a philosopher, a carpenter, a digger of ditches, a seller of goods, a pumper of gas, a housekeeper, a driver, a teacher. None of these things describes me. I am more than any one of them; I am more than all of them combined.
As are you.
Blog Goals and Policies
Posts
My goal is to post one or two times each week. Most of the posts will be about the craft of writing, or have a writerly viewpoint. So when I post reviews of books and movies, industry news, or even cultural observations, they will come from how I see those things as a writer.
In addition, I will be including writing product, be it in the form of essays, poetry, vignettes, or excerpts.
This not a rule, however, as I am more than just a writer. I will also post on my other artistic endeavors–music, gardening, the culinary arts–as well as on topics of social observation. I try to avoid politics, but no promises.
Comments
I encourage comments. Feel free to post your replies and thoughts. I don’t care if you disagree with me, as long as you’re thoughtful and respectful of all readers. There’s not much I like more than a good debate.
If it’s your first time commenting, your comment will go into a moderation queue. Take no offense. I use this to make sure new commenters aren’t spambots.
I do not allow offensive commentary, and by offensive I mean obscene, vile, nasty stuff. If anyone posts offensive comments, I will take out my +10 Hammer of Editing, set it to “kitten,” and transmogrify said offensive comments into Sweetness and Light. No kidding. I will. Repeat offenders will be banned, but trust me, the Hammer of Editing usually does the trick.

Hi, Kurt, from 2 houses down! I just found your blog through the LinkedIn rabbit hole, and I’m glad I did. I agree wholeheartedly about generalization and artistic expression. Would like to chat more – we need to get you guys over for a glass of wine in the back yard while we have all this sunshine. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the NNO event. -Lindsey

Hey, Linsdey! Thanks for taking the time to poke around. We’re looking forward to the NNO event, too, and to meet our new neighbors as well. Busy times on the cul-de-sac. But what’s this “sunshine” you speak of? Based on the last few days… 😉

Greetings, Kevin, and thanks for stopping by.
BTW, I haven’t had to use the +10 Hammer of Editing, on any setting, yet. We’re all too good-natured here, I guess!
