When I began writing, I wrote when I wanted to write. When I formed a writers' workshop, I began to write to a schedule, to submit to the group. When I sold my first novel and was contracted for a second, I wrote to meet a tight deadline. When the publisher wanted a third novel, I wrote to meet that deadline, and did it again for a fourth.
